About the event

Join us for an informative session focusing on understanding advance care planning and its relationship to medical assistance in dying (MAiD). Explore the importance of documenting end-of-life wishes and preferences, legal considerations, and emotional support resources.

Participants will engage in a ceremonial planning activity to reflect on their values, beliefs, and preferences regarding end-of-life ceremonies or rituals.   Here's how the activity will unfold:

  1. Gather a blank paper, pen or pencil, and optional markers or coloured pencils.
  2. Reflect on your own values, beliefs, and preferences regarding end-of-life ceremonies or rituals.
  3. Brainstorm ideas for personalized ceremonies or rituals related to MAiD, emphasizing creativity and individual expression.
  4. Design your own personalized ceremony or ritual on the blank paper, including layout, visual elements, and key components.

Activity Worksheet:

Reflection: Consider the influence of your values, beliefs, and cultural traditions on your preferences regarding end-of-life ceremonies.

Brainstorming: Determine elements or symbols to include in your personalized ceremony or ritual related to MAiD, and why they are meaningful to you.

Designing: Reflect on the considerations guiding your decisions in sketching out the layout and visual elements of your ceremony or ritual design.

Sharing:  Discuss aspects of your ceremony or ritual design that resonate deeply with you and envision its impact on loved ones and caregivers.

  • Open to all - including those who are considering/pursuing, supporting someone choosing, grieving a MAiD loss, and/or professionals/volunteers
  • Sessions are facilitated on Zoom by trained volunteer(s)
  • No counselling is provided and participation is voluntary
  • No cost – suggested donation of $5 per person is appreciated
