About the event

Join us for a session focused on identifying and overcoming barriers to support for individuals considering medical assistance in dying (MAiD). Explore societal stigmas, cultural and religious influences, common challenges, and coping strategies.

Participants will engage in a mindfulness and meditation practice to navigate the emotional aspects of MAiD decision-making.

Here's how the activity will unfold:

  1. Find a quiet and comfortable space without distractions.
  2. Settle into a comfortable position, close your eyes if comfortable.
  3. Take deep breaths, focusing on the present moment.
  4. Begin the guided meditation, cultivating mindfulness and compassion as you navigate the emotional aspects of MAiD.
  5. After the meditation, reflect on your experience and any insights that arose.

Activity Worksheet:

What emotions or thoughts arose during the guided meditation?

How did it feel to bring mindfulness and compassion to these emotions?

Did you notice any shifts or insights in your perspective on MAiD or your own emotional experience?

How can you continue to cultivate mindfulness and compassion in your daily life, especially when facing challenging emotions or decisions?

  • Open to all - including those who are considering/pursuing, supporting someone choosing, grieving a MAiD loss, and/or professionals/volunteers
  • Sessions are facilitated on Zoom by trained volunteer(s)
  • No counselling is provided and participation is voluntary
  • No cost – suggested donation of $5 per person is appreciated
